NO RAWHIDE NO GRAINS
Raw meat: Frozen or Fresh, best raw option is lamb/sheep do not need to grind up, pieces cut directly from the attached bone is better. Ground up internal organs with muscle meat is better than only muscle meat.
Organ meats such as Liver, Heart, Tripe or Kidney are good weekly. Organ meats are abundant in amino acids and over feeding will cause dogs to have seizures.
Egg Yolk: one or more egg yolk daily is good, if you’re not feeding raw organs. Boiled or scrambled eggs are nutritious also.
Sardines: best in olive oil, once or twice weekly instead of raw meat.
Raw or cooked vegetables only as a filler like carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, peas, pumpkin, squash or beans. Prepared in a blender is the best way.
Bones: RAW BONES - Chicken or Rabbit bones are harmless. COOKED BONES are SHARP and DANGEROUS.
Treats or Snacks: NO Rawhide! Freeze dried snacks like Turkey legs, turkey head, chicken legs, cow ears are excellent. Other options for treats are dry fish skin, bully sticks, and dry sardines.
Kibble: You have the choice to add dry food to their diet. Make kibble does not contain rawhide or grains. Watch for dry skin and coat when feeding kibble.
Supplements: Omega 3, 6 needed daily.
Socialization and basic obedience training should begin at an early age and is essential to ensure that every Giant puppy grows into a well-behaved adult dog. Giants are playful and energetic, so it is important to keep them occupied to keep destructive behaviors avoided. They need regular activities and consistent expectations from their owner. They are naturally protective of their families and homes so formal protection training is not required.
All dogs need basic grooming – nails clipped, ears and teeth cleaned, coat brushed daily. Giants need more grooming than most breeds. Beards and leg hair must be brushed often to prevent matting.
Giants have minimal shedding. Their coat requires regular attention by using a pin brush with large bristles, rake comb (green handle), large tooth comb (metal comb) or shedding brush (purple handle). See examples below.
You can use hand stripping (grooming glove) to remove excess or dying hair. This process stimulates the hair follicles and allows new hair to grow out brighter and coarser.
